چکیده

Let S be a set of n points in IR and let t > 1 be a real number. A t-spanner for S is a directed graph having the points of S as its vertices, such that for any pair p and q of points there is a path from p to q of length at most t times the Euclidean distance between p and q. Such a path is called a t-spanner path. The spanner diameter of such a spanner is defined as the smallest integer D such that for any pair p and q of points there is a t-spanner path from p to q containing at most D edges. Randomized and deterministic algorithms are given for constructing t-spanners consisting of O(n) edges and having O(log n) diameter. Also, it is shown how to maintain the randomized t-spanner under random insertions and deletions. Previously, no results were known for spanners with low spanner diameter and for maintaining spanners under insertions and deletions.

Spanners for Geometric Intersection Graphs

Efficient algorithms are presented for constructing spanners in geometric intersection graphs. For a unit ball graph in R, a (1+ǫ)-spanner with O(nǫ) edges is obtained using efficient partitioning of the space into hypercubes and solving bichromatic closest pair problems. The spanner construction has almost equivalent complexity to the construction of Euclidean minimum spanning trees. The resul...

Fast algorithms for constructing t-spanners and paths with stretch t

The distance between two vertices in a weighted graph is the weight of a minimum-weight path between them. A path has stretch t if its weight is at most t times the distance between its end points. We consider a weighted undirected graph G = (V, E) and present algorithms that compute paths with stretch 2 5 t 5 log n. We present a q((m + k)n('+')lt) time randomized algorithm that finds paths bet...

Geometric Searching in Walkthrough Animations with Weak Spanners in Real Time

We study algorithmic aspects in the management of geometric scenes in interactive walkthrough animations. We consider arbitrarily large scenes consisting of unit size balls. For a smooth navigation in the scene we have to fullll hard real time requirements. Therefore, we need algorithms whose running time is independent of the total number of objects in the scene and that use as small space as ...

Finding Sparser Directed Spanners

A spanner of a graph is a sparse subgraph that approximately preserves distances in the original graph. More precisely, a subgraph H = (V,EH) is a k-spanner of a graph G = (V,E) if for every pair of vertices u, v ∈ V , the shortest path distance distH(u, v) from u to v in H is at most k · distG(u, v). We focus on spanners of directed graphs and a related notion of transitiveclosure spanners. Th...
